The future stares at the past across the swollen Huangpu
River. The tall spire is the Oriental Pearl TV tower, reputedly
the second tallest man made structure on earth. Across the
river, left of the mouth of Suzhou Creek, is the old Bund,
the famous waterfront of Shanghai's semi-colonial past.
Beyond stretches the concrete jungle of the Puxi district.
