HISTORY & MISSION

Sinomania! was founded in 1993, in Washington, DC, as Focus China Information Service and later renamed Focus China Research in 1995. We adapted the name Sinomania!™ in 1998 when the Sinomania! website debuted.

Sinomania! is devoted to nonpartisan research, education, and web-based publication on economic, political, and social developments in China, in order to advance understanding and awareness of China today. Sinomania! is also a counter to the rising tide of sinophobia, the fear of China that is emerging in many parts of the world particularly in the USA.

Sinomania! is endless fascination with China. Literally, the name means a mania for China and the civilization created by the Chinese people (Sino = Latin root for Chinese; mania = suffix "exaggerated desire").
